Frequently Asked Commencement Housing Questions
How do I sign up for commencement housing? When will I receive information?Advance reservations are required, and full payment is due at the time reservations are made. All prices include tax. The deadline for reservations is Friday, April 13, or until available space is filled. Space is limited, so please make your reservations early. No refunds after registration is complete.
Building assignments, directions, and other pertinent information will be sent during the first week of May. Registrants who provide an e-mail address on the registration form will receive this information by e-mail, otherwise registrants will receive the information by mail. We regret that reservations may not be made by phone. The completed order form and full payment must accompany all orders. When is the deadline to submit order forms? The deadline for reservations will be announced closer to date. Can I reserve rooms for Saturday night only?Space limitations and limited staffing do not allow us to provide rooms for a Saturday-night stay only. All rooms booked are reserved for both Friday and Saturday nights. Do you have a schedule of events for commencement weekend? The president's office is responsible for the commencement schedule. When it is available online, it will be linked from the Virginia Tech website. Will I be able to reserve rooms on the first floor for elderly or handicapped guests?Yes, these rooms (although limited) are available. You should include a note with your reservation request describing specific needs. When necessary, some guests who request a ground floor room may be accommodated in a building with an elevator. Where do I park?Virginia Tech has ample perimeter parking, but very little parking around the residence halls. Your building assignment, along with directions, will be sent no later than the first week in May. For your convenience, the Blacksburg Transit will be running a continuous shuttle service the Friday of Commencement Weekend, allowing you to park your vehicle in a perimeter lot and receive a ride back to your residence hall. If I order more than one room, will all of them be together? In most cases, all rooms will be located on the same floor and next to each other. However, guests that have one or more individuals with a special need (for example, a ground floor room) may be split up due to limited space for individuals with disabilities. My friends have already ordered; can I order and get a room located next to them?Every effort will be made to accommodate these types of requests. Please make sure you note this on your request form and list the name of the guests you would like to room near and the name of their graduating senior (this will help in the event that you request someone with a common name). While we cannot guarantee that you will be in rooms next to each other, you will be assigned to the same floor if possible. Can an adult stay as an extra in a room if he/she sleeps on the floor?Yes, a third person may stay in the room. Remember that the beds are twin size and will accommodate one adult each. Also, no additional linens or pillows will be provided, so the third person will need to bring his or her own. What is included in each room? Each commencement lodging guest receives a set of sheets, a pillow and pillowcase, two towels, a washcloth, soap, and drinking cups. All rooms are equipped with local telephone service. Residence halls feature one single-sex community bathroom on each floor with toilets, sinks, and shower stalls. Can my student register and pick up keys if we arrive on campus late?Yes, but in most cases this should not be necessary. The check-in period on Friday will be from 1:00 p.m. until midnight. Will the beds be debunked?Yes, the beds are debunked. Will refunds be granted if I change my mind about attending commencement? No, reservations are non-refundable. |
